JOSH WINDASS is caught in the middle of a tug of war between Wigan and Sheffield Wednesday with Rangers still owed £450,000 for the midfielder.

Windass left Gers in 2018 to join Wigan after two years at Ibrox.

He made 56 appearances for the Latics before joining Wednesday on loan in January where he made nine appearances and scored three goals.

Garry Monk’s side are now looking to make that move permanent with Wigan plunged into administration.

However, SunSport’s Alan Nixon says the move hinges on an instalment owed to Rangers.

Writing on Twitter, he said: “Josh Windass’ move to Sheffield Wednesday gets done if [they] pay the money Wigan are due to pay Rangers. About £450,000.”

Speaking recently, Windass revealed he was on more money at Wigan than he was during his time at Ibrox.

But he insisted the fan atmosphere was better in Scotland than it is down south.

He said: “The atmosphere is way better in Scotland, especially in the Old Firm.

“Even at Hibs and Hearts away to be honest. They are better atmospheres than down in England, 100 per cent.

“I’ve had so many arguments with boys in English teams about that standard in Scotland.

“They have no idea. They genuinely think it’s a pub league.

“They would all sign for Rangers or Celtic at the drop of the hat if they got the opportunity.”

Meanwhile, Marseille have reportedly entered the race to sign Alfredo Morelos – on a loan deal.

French outfit Le10Foot claims that the Provence side, under the charge of Portuguese coach Andre Villas-Boas, have opened talks with the Ibrox side with a view to taking the player on loan.

But it’s unlikely to be entertained by the Ibrox side who have been holding out for a fee of £20million plus.

With Marseille having well-publicised financial issues, it seems unlikely that a deal can be done.
